Most cities big and small promote special events throughout the year to attract visitors and enrich the lives of local residents. Greenville, SC, is no exception, and this city offers some first-rate events all year long that make living in Greenville an attractive option. Already considered one of the top cities in the country for young professionals, and located near the Blue Ridge Mountains, there is no shortage of activities in the area. From the Fourth of July to the holiday season, take a look at some of the things to do in Greenville.

Wells Fargo Red, White & Blue Festival

There are many Fourth of July celebrations all over the country, but the Wells Fargo Red, White & Blue Festival ranks among the best. It presents one of the largest fireworks displays in South Carolina and offers live music on two stages. On July 4th from 5pm – 10pm, there is something for everyone. The event is held in downtown Greenville from Court to Camperdown streets and includes Broad Street, from Falls and Laurens streets, as well as Falls Park.

Roper Mountain Holiday Lights

One of the best aspects of the holiday season is the displays of colorful lights that appear all over the city. It’s fun to brighten your windows and garden for the enjoyment of others. The Roper Mountain Holiday Lights event takes light shows to a whole new level. Beginning on Thanksgiving night and dazzling visitors until the end of the year, this light show entertains everyone and is a must-see event for new residents. It’s the largest show of its kind in upstate South Carolina.

The light show includes several venues. Visitors start by taking a stroll down the WinterWonderland lane where, along with the lights, they see Santa Clause, food and beverage concessions, a balloon artist, and the giant greeting cards that the local area students have created. After that they can drive the 1.5 mile road through the large light displays that includes Candy Cane Lane, the Caterpillar, and much more. Admission is paid according to the size of the vehicle and there are multi-car passes that are good for three visits. All of the funds raised through this event are given back to the community through various charities.

Greenville Heritage FCU Main Street Fridays

The Greenville Heritage FCU Main Street Fridays is a music festival that lasts from March through September on Main Street at NOMA Square. It opens at 5:30PM and closes at 9:30PM. This is the place where locals start their weekend fun, and visitors come from miles around to experience the event. Along with the two live music sets from local, regional, and national talent, there are special promotional events throughout the summer. Admission is free, and, since it offers a variety of musical styles every week, you’ll never be bored.
