Central Park Inspired: Legacy Park
Legacy Park opened in 2008 as a replica of New York City’s Central Park. Prior to its opening, John Hollingsworth, a prominent figure in the Greenville business community, originally owned the land. Replete with rolling hills and beautiful landscapes, the park is an outdoor sanctuary in the heart of the city. It is also a wonderful place to take your kids, as playground equipment can be found throughout the grounds.
Outdoor Activities: Gower Estates Park
With softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and a golf course, Gower Estates Park is a perfect destination if you’re in the mood to exercise. There is also a one-mile long walking trail and, interestingly enough, an M60 Army tank to explore. And after you get active, you can replenish your calories at the park picnic shelters.
All-Day Event: Cleveland Park
This massive 122-acre park is often referred to as “The City Park.” Everyone has something they love about this sprawling and diverse green space. It was created in 1928 when the Cleveland family gave away all of their land along the Reedy River. This park has fun facilities for playing volleyball, basketball, and tennis. Cleveland Park is also home to the Greenville Zoo, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Fernwood Nature Trail, and the Rock Quarry Garden.
Reflection and Respect: The Cancer Survivor’s Park
This is a very special park dedicated to those who have fought and overcame cancer. Because of this, there are many activities and events held here throughout the year that celebrate survivors and raise funds for research. Volunteers often run organized, peaceful meditation groups here. Additionally the Swam Rabbit Trail snakes around The Cancer’s Survivor’s Park, which is an excellent trail to run or walk around for your daily exercise.
