Bob Jones University is a Christian liberal arts institution that offers 60 undergraduate programs and multiple graduate degrees. With approximately 3,000 students, it is a moderately-sized private institution with on-campus residence halls. Despite these residence halls, off-campus living is typically considered to be preferable with the ability to choose location, roommates, décor, and more. However, Bob Jones University off-campus living may not be conducive to great studying due to noise and distractions from roommates. Most people find it helpful to find great study spots that help them concentrate while writing papers, doing homework, or studying for exams. The following locations are a sampling of the best study spots near Bob Jones University.
One of the quietest locations on campus, the Mack Library, located on Library Drive near the men’s residence halls, is perfect for those who prefer studying in solitude with excellent resources nearby. The Mack Library houses nearly 400,000 books and has access to thousands more through the PASCAL inter-library loan system. No need to worry about finding a seat; Mack seats well over 1,000 students and offers a computer lab. Hours vary throughout the year, but the Mack is normally open from 7:45 am until 10:15 pm.
Those who prefer a high-energy atmosphere will love studying with friends at the on-campus Den. The Den is perfect for large group meetings, especially for those working on group projects. The bright, exhilarating atmosphere is heightened with plenty to eat and drink. The Den boasts a Chick-fil-A, a Papa John’s, and Brody’s Deli. Those craving a cup of java to keep them awake while studying can head to the on-site Cuppa Jones. Seating hours for studying are 7:30 am until 10 or 10:50 pm, depending on the night.
Academic Resource Center
Located in the on-campus Alumni Building, the Academic Resource Center has much to offer students who live off-campus. With plenty of bright study spots surrounded by live plants, the Center lets students study individually or in groups. The Resource Center also has a special Writing Center where students can get help with essays and reports as well as offices where students can meet with coaches for one-on one help with everything from studying to test-taking. The Resource Center is open from 8 am to 5 pm.
Students who do not want to head back to campus can check out Liquid Highway. The closest location to campus is on East North Street, and a second location is available on Halton Road. A cozy place, Liquid Highway also offers outdoor seating at large picnic tables. Students will appreciate that they can grab a cup of coffee or a specialty drink while also supporting the shop’s mission of funding medical clinics and missions. It is open from 6 am to 8 pm, most days.
Whether one chooses a library, a coffee shop, or an on-campus academic zone, there are many great study locations near Bob Jones University. Many spots are rich with heritage, yet provide the quietness that may seem unreachable in an off-campus apartment. Students are encouraged to try one or two of these spots to find the perfect atmosphere.
